Dear Downpayment Assistance Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Downpayment Assistance Program (DAP) for First Time Homebuyers.   Please read the information that can help you decide if you are a qualified applicant for the program.  You will want to pay close attention to the information that lists the facts concerning eligibility.  If you do not exceed the annual allowable Gross Income for the next anticipated 12 months, then you could possibility qualify.

Second, before the process begins, you must attend and successfully complete a Homeownership Education Course to obtain a certificate.  Click on the link for the HUD Approved Homeownership Education Providers to find a homeownership education program and select a date and time that might be convenient for you to take their class and obtain your certificate.

Once you get your certificate, then you may contact one of the mortgage companies found in the link below the link to this page and speak to a loan officer about a first mortgage and the Harris County DAP (First Time Homebuyers) program.

Once you qualify for a first mortgage, and you have found a house that you would like to purchase, the mortgage company will forward your documentation to our office, the Lending Services of Harris County Community and Economic Development Department.  We will then contact you to set up an interview and determine your final eligibility.
